Today's child is more protected and more pampered than ever before. At the same time, today's child is brighter and smarter than the child of the past. Thanks to the resources made available by the parents, children have roamed around the world, virtually or physically. As a result he has enriched himself culturally, behaviourally, socially and emotionally. But a child is a child after all and depends on elders for guidance and support. The education system today allows for more scope of introducing electronic gadgets, by and large computer based devices into teaching. To name a few scientific and graphical calculators, electronic encyclopedia, metric converters etc Centuries past and centuries to come, essentials of education have been constant and will stay unchallenged. And these are sound knowledge of language, flair for numbers and an inquisitive way of looking at things. Everything else that relates to education revolves around these three disciplines.
It is indeed a matter of great pride and privilege to be a member of this excellent institution. I have learnt that the importance of education in the life of an individual cannot be overstated. It is said If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people. Indeed, one can even say that the quality of education will determine the destiny of the nation. For me, Education does not mean providing answers. It means equipping the pupil with the means to find the answers for himself and within himself. Today's dream, today's vision, is tomorrow's reality. I, along with my team of silent workers and dedicated faculty, intend to build on this strong foundation and raise the standards in all spheres, to the zenith. My aim is not only to be an able administrator but also to be a friend, philosopher and guide to students, one whom they can count on and trust at all times.
Excessive regimentation and theorization in an uninspiring classroom environment kills the urge to know within the child. Treating the child as a member of a mass of students, ignoring his / her individuality drains away the child's enthusiasm to learn. Besides, a teacher-centric system of education emphasizes teaching at the cost of leaning further defeats the purpose of formal education. British Olivia School is well aware of these potentialities and pitfalls of formal education & strives to sustain the smile of self discovery of its children faces. The school lays stress on students-centered play way method of learning.
The delight of cognition is something unique to man. No sooner does a child begin to perceive his environment then he begins the delightful journey of self-knowledge as also that of knowing his surroundings. Formal education attempts to build on this innate urge of the child by structuring and grading it. As the child graduates from one class to the other, he / she accomplishes a certain level of understanding about his/her self and the world around. One danger, however, lurks in the over-formalization of education and this is the loss of a smile of discovery on a childs face.
